We get asked all sorts of stuff. Hopefully this helps.
I’m an artist/band and we’d like coverage, what should we send you?
Send us your music links (preferably Bandcamp but Spotify or Soundcloud is fine) and all your various social media links. Also, it really helps if you let us know your ties to the Greater Lowell area.
How do you decide what bands to cover?
The bands we cover all have distinct connections to the general area of Lowell, the Greater Lowell Area (aka the surrounding towns), or the Merrimack Valley itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merrimack_Valley
As a rule of thumb we go about a 20 mile radius outside of Lowell which conveniently avoids all the other major scenes:
If bands are from the area, known regulars to the area, go to school in the area, or were originally formed in the area, we’re open to covering you. But there’s also a second criteria; one of the writers has to like your music enough to cover i t.
So if you didn’t write about us, does that mean you don’t like our music?
Not necessarily. Perhaps we didn’t think your ties to the coverage area were strong enough or what’s even more likely is we’re simply too busy working on other articles to take yours on at this time. We have a small staff, there’s only so much we can do.
Will you ever expand beyond your coverage area?
We do have plans to expand our coverage area once we feel we have the adequate systems and staff in place though that might not necessarily be into the areas you’d think.
I’ve been told I’m getting a review/article, when will it be out? Can I get it finished and out by next week?
There’s usually several things being worked on at once so chances are there’s actually an invisible line in front of you. We’ll get to it when we get to it.
Do you do advertising? How do you make money? Do you make money?
Not even a little. We’re still figuring that out.
What’s the meaning behind your name/logo?
The obvious is that records spin and we’re a music site but if you’re from the Lowell area you’d also know that the name is based after the textile industry which put Lowell on the map similar to the single A baseball team The Lowell Spinners. Our logo is a L & S, a surprising number of people don’t realize that for some reason.
How can I help/get involved?
We’re always open to new writers, staff members, and general help. Just email us to let us know if you’re looking to do any of that. But also, a simple Facebook share or other social media follow does wonders for us.
