SkyTigers Take Home a BMA

In a year of Lowell invading deeper into the Boston Music Awards than ever before, it felt inevitable that at least SOMEONE was going to take home a coveted BMA trophy. While many predicted Corner Soul would be the prize winners of the night scoring three different nominations, it was actually SkyTigers who scored a victory, winning Punk/Hardcore Artist of the Year.

Singer/Bassist Brian Christopher stated the band’s feelings of amazement on their Facebook page: “I’ve been sick the last two days, but this morning I woke up to hundreds of texts, direct messages, notifications and emails reminding me that last night was not a fever dream. Words cannot express how floored we are by this award.”

What makes this earning especially distinct was the competition they were up against. Long-time notable and popular Boston bands such as Rebuilder, Nice Guys, Choke Up, Actor/Observer were among several favorites in the category, though 2019 was quite a year for SkyTigers as well.

The year started with the anticipated release of Disasterbation followed by a strong performance in the 2019 Rock and Roll Rumble. From there, the locally esteemed Lowell based thrash band rode an astonishing wave of show after show winning the hearts, ears, and minds of all those who were in attendance.

Having personally witnessed the band grow, develop, and overcome hardships throughout the years, it’s safe to say this victory was well deserved. – Joel Gray
