Chris Porter of Porter Productions is a recent, but indispensable addition to Lowell’s modern local scene. A former resident of the city who now resides on the West Coast, and a promoter who has booked shows for internationally touring acts like Charles Bradley, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and DJ Spooky; his most recent credit is in organizing the downtown-based Town & City Festival, which debuted last year, and featured internationally touring acts such as Wreckless Eric, Edo G, and Gary Hoey, as well as numerous local favorites. The festival will be returning to downtown Lowell this October. Now in celebration of our 2nd year anniversary, we at The Lowell Spin now present…
5 QUESTIONS FOR CHRIS PORTER
1. What’s the last GREAT album you’ve recently listened to?
The Rolling Stones’ Exile on Main Street.
2. What band or artist would you most like to book a bill with?
That’s a hard question for me because there are SO many. But one that particularly comes to mind is British band Spiritualized. I tried to book them this year on one of the festivals I work on and I thought it was going to work out, but unfortunately some timing and logistical issues came up so they had to pass. I’ll aim to keep trying to present them sometime in the future.
3. What passions and hobbies do you follow outside of music?
I’m a big sports fan and avid softball player. I also love traveling. My goal is to go to at least one new destination per year.
4. What’s the one thing about the music scene as a whole you’d like to change?
I’d love to see a 200 to 250 capacity venue materialize in downtown Lowell that can continue the atmosphere and community that was promoted and nurtured at Uncharted Gallery. I also hope in the coming years we see more creative people (especially musicians) moving to Lowell. The more that happens, the more the scene grows and thrives.
5. Who do you think might be secretly an alien/celestial being hiding among us and why?
(This question comes from the previous 5 Questions interviewee Jim Phelps)
If an alien/celestial being is among us, I think they’d aim to be low on everyone’s radar so they can observe us with little if any interference. But for some reason they decided that being a well known figure is a good way to study our world, I think they’d pose as a teacher or philosopher of some sort – either in sciences or self help/spirituality education. So that could make people like the Dalai Lama, Neil deGrasse Tyson, the recently deceased Stephen Hawking, and Eckhart Tolle prime suspects for being aliens. They’d be here to observe us, but if they have an opportunity to teach us in ways that help us improve our world, they’d do that too.
The Town & City Festival will be taking place at various venues around downtown Lowell from October 18th to the 19th. Details on the lineup, venues, and purchasing tickets can be found at their website. – https://www.thetownandthecityfestival.com/
