More than just an invaluable member of The Lowell Spin crew, Kevin Conway is a highly prolific member of the city’s music scene. Undoubtedly you’ve seen him about town either as an observer of shows, or as an active participant in innumerable staple scene bands like Whiskey Duo, Swimmintrunks, Kid Widow (RIP), and Chuckin’ The Reeds. To help us ring in 2019, we’ve tracked down this mountain nomad of a scenester with one goal in mind; to ask…
5 QUESTIONS FOR KEVIN CONWAY
1. What’s the last GREAT album you’ve recently listened to?
Not that I don’t usually listen to the stuff, but for some reason I can’t stop listening to music from the 60’s and early 70’s. It’s all I want to listen to lately. (Stuff like the Stones, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, The Band, and Hendrix for example.) Can’t get enough. But more specifically, and to get to the point…kind of…I’ve had a recent obsession with Duane Allman. So I’ve been listening to a lot of (obviously) the Allman Brothers from his era, but also the Studio Jams with Clapton. However, if I had to narrow it down…and finally get to the point…At Fillmore East by the Allman Brothers. The original line-up was something else.
2. What band or artist would you most like to share a bill with?
This one is easy…Living: The Wood Brothers. Deceased: Mr. Tom Petty, of course.
3. What passions and hobbies do you follow outside of music?
Also easy: Hiking, fishing, camping, and creating various forms of art. And I try to pet dogs whenever possible.
4. What’s the one thing about the music scene as a whole you’d like to change?
And then you hit me with this one…too many thoughts…so little energy to voice them all…I’d like to see a few more venues, and I’d like to see bands get paid (fairly) for every gig.
5. Artist/Musician/Band you’d most like to collaborate with and why?
(This question comes from the previous 5 Questions interviewee Rochelle Ferguson)
I’d just be happy if anyone wanted to collaborate with me to be honest…
Living: The Wood Brothers. Deceased: Mr. Tom Petty, of course…of course.
